Public Speaking Advice & Coaching FAQs
Who should seek help with public speaking advice or presenting and how does it work?
The information below will answer most questions!
Who should get public speaking advice?
Public speaking advice is useful for those of us who have to speak to others, especially to groups – either at work, socially or for special events such as weddings.
How else can you help me?
I will help you improve all forms of communication, written, spoken and non-verbal!
That could be helping you make an engaging, creative and fun speech for business or pleasure. It could be helping your career along by guiding you through a pitch, or job interview and helping you feel positive in networking situations. It could be helping you be more effective at work by developing coaching and persuasive skills for yourself.
In short, I will help you communicate more clearly and positively in any situation.
How many public speaking coaching sessions will I need?
A tricky question to answer precisely. Improving one’s public speaking skills is an ongoing process for anybody. Even I still aim to learn and improve my speaking and presentation technique every day. A key factor is your current skill level and your own aspirations are clearly all to be taken into consideration.
Upon meeting and having our first public speaking training session we can agree a way forward and estimate the way forward.
What I can say is that every client sees improvement in their first session .
Where and when do we meet?
I have rooms located in Kent, with easy access and parking. Alternatively I can travel to your office or a suitable meeting venue convenient for you. I am available for public speaking coaching during normal office hours or weekday evenings upon special request.
What Happens in A Session?
Initially, we take a few minutes to get to know each other. We’ll agree some objectives and then it is on to real work. I’ll typically ask you to deliver part of a presentation you’ve done before so I can gauge your current ability. The remainder of the meeting is a mixture of theory, discussion and practice of your speech and various exercises I’ll set for you. Allow 90 minutes to 2 hours for a public speaking teaching session.
What topics do we cover?
There are many elements essential in making a great public speaker or presenter. Based upon your needs and abilities we will cover topics such as:
- Breathing and posture
- Managing anxiety
- Vocal technique
- Voice tone
- Flattening your accent or vocal quirks
- Planning your presentation
- Structure and construction
- Content Management
- Audience rapport
- Body language and gestures
- Psychology
- Use of visual aids
- Use of microphones
- “Stage” Management
- People management
Is there homework?
I’ll ask you to rehearse, research and review work between our sessions. The real way to develop your pubic speaking is to do as much of it as you can, so I’ll ask you to find as many opportunities as you can!
Can we work online?
Yes, coaching Via Skype works well, ideally once we have established a rapport. Ideally initial sessions should be done face-to-face with follow up sessions on-line with the convenience that brings! Of course during the Coronavirus outbreak – online coaching is perfect!
